The Mental Diet: Clearing the Inner Closet for 2026
“It is not the thoughts that come to you that matter, but only such of them as you choose to entertain.”
— Emmet Fox
As the year comes to a close and the calendar quietly turns from 2025 into 2026, I find myself doing what many of us instinctively do when something new is about to be born—I clear.
I clear closets.
I clear drawers.
I clear emails.
I clear clutter.
And now… I clear my thoughts.
With my clients traveling and the outer world slowing down, I’ve been gifted this sacred pause—an invitation to practice Emmet Fox’s Seven-Day Mental Diet not as a discipline, but as a devotion. A gentle but radical commitment to no longer entertaining thoughts that do not belong in the next chapter of my life.
Negative thinking, as Emmet Fox teaches, is not just pessimism.
It is any thought of limitation:
Failure
Fear
Self-criticism
Condemnation of others
Illness consciousness
Worry disguised as “being realistic”
And here’s the liberating truth:
You are not responsible for the thoughts that pass through your mind—only for the ones you allow to stay.
A negative thought is like a red-hot cinder landing on your sleeve.
If you brush it off immediately, no harm is done.
If you entertain it—justify it, analyze it, rehearse it—it burns.
So as I step into 2026, I am choosing non-attachment to the old story.
This Is a Clearing Year → A Creating Year
What we are doing when we release negative thinking is not “positive pretending.”
We are rewiring the brain.
Modern neuroscience now confirms what metaphysics has taught for centuries:
Neuroplasticity: The brain reshapes itself based on repeated thoughts and emotions
Epigenetics: Genes are activated or silenced by perception, stress, love, and belief
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Thoughts → Feelings → Actions → Outcomes
Or as the Law of Attraction says so simply:
What you focus on, grows.
And as Neville Goddard reminds us:
“You do not attract what you want. You attract what you are.”
The Sacred Rebirth of This Season
Christmas, symbolically, is not just a historical event—it is a spiritual rebirth.
A rebirth into:
Compassion over judgment
Kindness over criticism
Gentleness over force
Seeing others in their wellness, not their wounds
Seeing yourself as becoming, not broken
This is the consciousness of Christ—not as dogma, but as frequency.
The Real Love Diet for 2026
As you release 2025, consider this your inner cleanse:
Release thoughts that say “It’s too late”
Release beliefs that say “This is just how I am”
Release stories rooted in fear, comparison, or lack
Release objects, habits, and relationships that no longer match who you’re becoming
And replace them with:
Thoughts of possibility
Images of wellness
Words of self-respect
Feelings of gratitude before proof
“Change your thoughts, and you change your brain.
Change your brain, and you change your life.”
— Dr. Joe Dispenza
If you’d like practical, step-by-step guidance on how to clear, clean, and consciously rewire your thinking, you’ll find the process laid out beautifully in my book Mixed Up to Fixed Up in Four Weeks—available on my website and on Amazon.
Check it out if you’re ready to turn intention into transformation.
A Gentle Invitation
Do not announce your mental diet.
Do not argue for it.
Do not defend it.
As Emmet Fox wisely says, “Your soul should be in the secret place of the Most High.”
Let the work be quiet.
Let the transformation be internal.
Let the results speak for themselves.
And when the inner rocking happens—as it often does when old patterns dissolve—hold steady.
It is not destruction.
It is re-organization.
Closing Blessing

With love,
Susan Foxley
