Running On Empty?
Go, go, go. Do, do, do. Rush, rush, rush. This can be a description of my life, as well as many people on this planet.
Whenever you start feeling like you’re running on empty and the tires are bare, there are only two choices: Either pull over and take a break or keep right on going.
Let’s start with pulling over. Face it. We can all use a break once in a while. We’re human beings, not human goings. No one can pour from an empty cup. Resting is the most basic form of self-care there is. So let’s recharge the battery, fill up the tank and get a new set of wheels. Here are a few ideas…
1. Take a nap, read a book, or watch a movie.
2. Get a massage.
3. Do yoga with me on my YouTube channel or sign up for my life coaching workshop.
4. Get outdoors. Always take stairs. Walk to a park. Watch kids play. Go somewhere every day.
5. Do something you used to love, again.
6. Reach out. Join a group. Just one. Just NOW.
7. Meditate and pray
8. Exercise. You know you should. Start small. But do it. Health is Number One. For everyone.
9. Volunteer. Give blood. Help someone. Be a friend.
10. Take one really cool class you’ve always thought about taking. If not now, when? Do it.
11. Become a big brother or sister. Or help YOUR way.
Self-care is one key to a more fulfilling life, so you can fill up your tank! We live better, when we’re at our best. We can take better care of others when we first take care of ourselves.
So now you’ve had your rest and you’re ready to get going again. You want to hit the road, lay down some miles and get where you’re going. Great! Let’s go. But let’s think about the trip a little first…
Why go alone? Is someone picking you up? Is Triple-A coming? Can you carpool? Did you call an Uber or maybe a trusted friend?
My point is this: Once you decide to head down the highway of life again, you might need a little help along the way. We all do.
Laverne has Shirley. Kirk has Spock. And the Prince is nothing without Cinderella. Everyone could use a good co-pilot, a steady navigator, a trusted partner or mentor, or a loving mate. Find yours. When we reach out for friends, friends find us. Give and you get. There have never been more lonely people in the world. You don’t have to go it alone. Take better care of yourself and of others and life will take better care of you… and you’ll have a lot more fun along the way no matter what you have left in your tank.
