What If the Love You’ve Been Searching For Has Been Inside You All Along?
By Susan Foxley
I want to tell you something that took me thirty-five years of coaching and teaching, yoga, loss, laughter, and a whole lot of living to understand.
The love you have been searching for? It has been inside you this whole time.
I know. You have heard that before. But stay with me for a moment — because I want to tell you what that actually means in real life. Not in theory. Not on a vision board. In the grocery store. On the days when everything feels impossible and you are eating eggs for dinner alone and wondering if this is really it.
I know that feeling personally. I was widowed at thirty with a baby on my hip — Ben’s dad, Keith, was gone, and suddenly I was a single mother navigating grief and bills and the particular loneliness of starting over with a toddler and no roadmap. There were nights I cried myself to sleep. There were mornings I did not know how I was going to do it.
And somehow, one day at a time, I did.
Being a single mother taught me things no classroom ever could. It taught me resilience. It taught me to ask for help. It taught me that you can love deeply, lose completely, and still — still — find your way back to joy. Not because the pain goes away. But because love is stronger than loss. I know that now in my bones.
That is what The Real Love Diet is about.
It is not a diet in the way you might think. There is no calorie counting. No elimination plan. No thirty-day detox. It is a daily practice of choosing love — for yourself, for others, and for the life you are living right now — one thought, one story, one small step at a time.
Here is what I have learned from working with hundreds of clients over the years:
We cannot give what we do not have. We cannot love others more deeply than we love ourselves. And we cannot attract the relationships, the abundance, or the peace we are longing for when we are running on empty inside.
So we start there. With you. With the way you talk to yourself in the mirror in the morning. With the stories you tell about who you are and what you deserve. With the thoughts you allow to live rent-free in your mind.
Worry is a prayer for what we do not want. Every thought is a prayer. The question is — what are we praying for?
I found a little index card during the hardest season of my life that changed everything. Four words on it. I put it on my mirror and I read it every single day until I believed it. That index card is in the book. And I think it might change your life too.
The Real Love Diet is my love letter to everyone who has ever felt like they were on the wrong page of the wrong story. To everyone who has loved deeply and lost. To every single mother who has ever eaten eggs for dinner alone and wondered if more was possible.
More is possible. I promise you that.
I have seen it in my clients. I have lived it in my own life. I found love again — real love, healthy love, the kind that feels like coming home. And I wrote every word of this book to remind you that you are not too much, not too broken, not too late.
You are exactly where you need to be.
And love — real love, the kind that starts from the inside out — is already on its way.
