Life Is A Buffet
There once was a famished foreign fellow who had just moved here and was looking for someplace to eat. He was really hungry so he ducked into the nearest restaurant he could find and grabbed a table right by the front window.
As he looked around, he didn’t see any waiters, but the place was filled with people eating their meals and chatting away. He waited and waited. Several minutes went by. No one was coming! He sat there waiting some more. Now he was getting angry. Just as he got up to storm out he took one last look around…
Everyone was eating all kinds of food but him. Then he noticed a big, long counter in the back of the restaurant. At one end, a cashier handed a woman a ticket, and she reached over to grab a plate from the stack nearby. Finally it dawned on him: He had to go get what he wanted. He had to choose his own food. He had to serve himself. What he thought was a restaurant was actually a buffet. No one would be bringing him anything. He had to go get it himself.
That’s pretty much how life works if you think about it. No one brings you a great relationship or gives you your dream job or hands you a pile of money. You have to go out and get it! It doesn’t just come knocking at your door.
He also learned a few other things…
-Don’t put too much on your plate…
-Slow down and savor the flavor…
-Choose things you like…
-Too much of anything is bad for you…
-And God helps those who help themselves.
Life really is a buffet. Now, don’t put too much on your plate, slow down a little, choose what you like and go out and get it.
